Anne Jones – December 2014 Newsletter 1
I am sitting in my apartment in a suburb of Tokyo enjoying the view of blue skies and autumn trees. The Japanese naturally make things look their best. Drain hole covers are etched with flower designs and even the smallest gift purchase is wrapped with exquisite detail. There are parks and shrines surrounded by trees that are placed in perfect and balanced formation. All of which helps to create a sense of harmony despite the normal bustle of city life. On Friday I had a break from teaching and visited the first home of Zen Buddhism in a Japan, the old Shogun capital of Kamakua. It is a city filled with temples and shrines and the place where I found my first true understanding of connection and universal flow – more to come about this in a blog when I fully process my special time and experience there. Although I am not a huge lover of minimalism I appreciate the balance of Zen and feel we can adopt some of this into our own lives. To present our best face to the world starts the flow back in to benefit ourselves too. A scowling intense face is unlikely to lift anyone’s spirits and I know that when I smile I get the resonance back through me too. So smile on!
I am on my way home to the fun of Christmas and I am determined to keep it stress free despite a short shopping and preparation time this year. I will let you know how I get on but I know that holding the intention is a start and reconnecting to the peace of that Zen garden in Kamakura will help!
