New Years Resolution

new-years-resolutionI wonder if like me you are pulling yourself together after the Christmas and New Year celebrations and trying to focus on the year ahead. As I walked in the Forest with my husband this morning, under grey and gloomy skies we discussed our New Years Resolution. He startled me with his pronouncement “I want to be more selfish”. “Oh dear, that sounds awful”. He quickly rewound his comment but couldn’t find the words to describe how he wanted to be. “Maybe, you want to think a little more about your own interests, be more kind to yourself and only do things that also suit you?” I suggested.

“That’s it!” He was pleased to put the feelings he had into words that didn’t make him seem uncaring. He helps so many people and he will continue to do so but he wants to do this without sleepless nights and feeling used. Thank goodness for that!

It’s a fine line to walk, the balance between caring for others and sacrificing ourselves. I think the concept of only doing what also makes your own heart feel good is a great one. If you are a caring person then caring and helping others will naturally make you feel good but you don’t want to do this without considering your own feelings, your own time and your own health.

Fortunately, we are not in an era of spiritual self-sacrifice or martyrdom. That was the spiritual theme of the Piscean era and the spiritual leaders, teachers and seekers of the past 2000 years found the way full of pain and suffering. We are now in Aquarian times and self-responsibility, self-awareness and self-acceptance are the order of the day. Caring and loving without self-harm is the theme of the current spiritual era.

So when you make your plans for the year ahead please make sure you allow time for rest and recuperation, time to love and enjoy your family time, have time to play and have fun and time to follow pursuits that make you smile. Remember that being happy is the best way to lift up and help others to be inspired and happy too. Happiness is infectious!

So a HAPPY New Year to you – sending you lots of love and bundles of hugs and kisses.
